We are looking for a General Accountant (Interim) to ensure the continuity of accounting activities in the management of the financial operations of MSF WaCA’s headquarters and field sites.

Type of Contract: Fixed-Term Contract under Ivorian Law- (8 Months Interim)

Position to be filled: 14th of September 2026

Objectives

The General Accountant, under the supervision of the Chief Accountant, is responsible for supervising, managing, and interpreting financial data while ensuring that financial transactions are accurately recorded. This is a versatile position within the MSF WaCA Finance Department, supporting the Chief Accountant in managing accounting activities both in the field and at headquarters.

Main responsibilities

HQ Accounting :

  • Review and record incoming and outgoing accounting documents in the HQ accounting software.

  • Ensure the proper filing and archiving of financial documents.

  • Assist with the month-end closing process: account reconciliations, inventory entries, preparation of closing documentation, bank reconciliations, balance reconciliations, etc.

  • Consolidate the mission’s financial statements in the head office’s accounting software and manage balance discrepancies.

  • Reconcile transfers, re-invoices, and reimbursements between head office and the missions and/or other sections.

  • Assist in the preparation of the year-end financial statements in accordance with local and international GAAP.

Audit and Internal Control :

  • Provide documentation for external audits and assist auditors during their assessments by supplying the necessary information related to both HQ and field finances.

  • Act as the focal point between MSF WaCA missions and HQ external auditors.

  • Ensure the implementation of audit recommendations at the mission level.

  • Conduct internal financial controls and audits of the missions/projects under his/her responsibility.

 Field Accounting :

  • Ensure and monitor the consistency and reliability of the accounting records of MSF WaCA mission countries while ensuring compliance with accounting policies.

  • Provide guidance and technical support to the missions within his/her portfolio to ensure proper documentation of accounting entries, as well as appropriate filing and archiving of accounting documents.

  • Contribute to the definition of MSF WaCA financial and accounting procedures. Develop and update the procedures manual.

  • Ensure and monitor compliance with local accounting standards, rules, and regulations, including the annual local audit.

  • Supervise the monthly and annual accounting closing of field missions, ensuring that all reconciliations are completed and signed by the relevant persons. Monitor monthly closing deadlines in the field and promote corrective actions in case of delays.

  • Provide guidance on the field accounting strategy to strengthen quality and internal control.

 Field Support and Follow-up:

  • Act as the first point of contact for mission accounting matters.

  • Provide functional supervision to the Accounting Managers (ACMA) within his/her portfolio of regular and emergency MSF WaCA missions.

  • Provide guidance and technical support to Accounting Managers on accounting management processes, monitor data entry into accounting systems, and provide advice on complex accounting entries. Ensure consistency between data received from the missions and MSF general ledger accounts while promoting accountability and transparency.

  • Contribute to the recruitment and onboarding process of new ACMAs in collaboration with the missions.

  • Provide training to Accounting Managers and Finance Coordinators (FinCo) on financial accounting policies, accounting tools, field financial information systems, and procedures, while collaborating to ensure that the rest of the field accounting team receives appropriate training.

  • Support both the field and headquarters in configuring accounting and financial software parameters.

Job requirements

Education

  • A degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.

  • A professional certification such as ACCA, CPA, or an equivalent qualification is an added advantage.

Competencies

  • Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and identify trends.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.

  • Ability to adapt to different contexts, circumstances, tasks, responsibilities, and people.

  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and diverse environment, demonstrating sensitivity to cultural differences and the local context.

 

Professional experience required

  • At least 5 years of experience in accounting or finance roles.

  • Familiarity with Ivorian and international GAAP, SYSCEBNL, and other relevant regulatory frameworks in West and Central Africa.

  • Experience in an accounting or audit firm is an added advantage.

  • Experience in training and knowledge transfer is an asset for this position.

     

Languages Skills

  • Working proficiency in English and French

Computer Skills

  • MS Office suite (mainly MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint)

  • Practical knowledge of ERP software.
