We Are Looking for: Medical Coordinator – Emergency Pool

Department: Operations

Direct Manager: Emergency Coordinator

Functional Manager: Emergency Cell medical manager

Working %: 100%

Position Based in: Field

Mobility: High mobility required – availability for short-notice deployments in emergency contexts across WaCA region

Type of Contract: Fixed-Term Contract; Renewable           

Position to be filled: Selected candidates will be added to the MSF WaCA Emergency Pool roster and may be contacted for deployment as operational emergency needs arise.

Objectives

The Emergency Medical Coordinator is responsible for the rapid assessment, design, implementation and coordination of emergency medical interventions to ensure effective and quality medical response in crisis situations

Main responsibilities

  1. Assessment & Analysis

  • Conduct rapid health assessments and exploratory missions

  • Analyze epidemiological data and health risks

  • Identify priority needs

2. Strategy & Program Design

  • Define and adapt emergency medical strategy

  • Ensure integration of public health approach

  • Propose appropriate intervention plans

3. Operational Coordination

  • Supervise medical teams (doctors, nurses, MoH staff)

  • Ensure coordination with authorities and partners

  • Support project implementation

 

4. Resource Management

  • Identify and mobilize HR, drugs and medical equipment

  • Ensure rational use of resources

  • Contribute to budget planning and follow-up

 

5. Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor program indicators and medical activities

  • Ensure quality of care

  • Produce medical and operational reports

 

Job requirements

Education

Medical Degree or paramedical degree (, Nurse, Midwife) with a masters in Public health

Competencies

  1. Technical

    • Emergency public health

    • Epidemiology and surveillance

    • Outbreak response

    • Nutrition and vaccination programs

    • Crisis context analysis

  2. Soft skills

    • Leadership and decision-making

    • Strong analytical skills

    • Coordination and organization

    • Negotiation and diplomacy

Professional experience required

  • Minimum 2–3 years in humanitarian field as a Project Medical Referent

  • Experience in emergency contexts

  • Experience in coordination/management position

  • Previous MSF or similar NGO experience is an asset

Languages Skills

Working proficiency in English and French

 

Computer Skills

MS Office suite (mainly MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint)
